Backstory: Ben spent most of his life living on a mysterious island in the south Pacific. He moved there in the 1970's with his father, an abusive alcoholic who was hired to work for the DHARMA Initiative. The DHARMA Initiative was a scientific research community based on the island. It was at odds with the island's natives. Ben tried joining this group as an attempt to escape life with his father, but was not able to until three years later, when a violent series of events brought Ben into the native's camp to be healed from a fatal gunshot wound. Though Ben eventually aligned himself with the island natives, he remained part of the DHARMA community until the Purge, which eradicated all DHARMA personnel living above ground.
Some time after the Purge, Ben became the leader of the island natives, who followed a godlike entity known as Jacob, protector of the island. Ben maintained leadership over Jacob's followers while based in the DHARMA barracks, where he raised his adopted daughter, Alex. Ben's leadership ended soon after Oceanic Flight 815 crashed on the island, bringing with it John Locke, who would succeed Ben. While being held prisoner by a group of crash survivors, a group of mercenaries hired by Ben's rival and predecessor, Charles Widmore, arrived on the island to extract Ben. Ben managed to avoid being extracted by the mercenaries, but at the cost of his daughter's life. After exacting revenge on the mercenary who killed his daughter, Ben left the island by moving it via a wheel connected to the island's special properties related to space and time. Doing this meant he could never return to the island; however, he managed to find a way back to it by gathering those who had managed to escape the island in 2004 and flying on a plane that made an emergency landing on the island.
Soon after landing, Ben was ensnared in a plot by Jacob's brother and rival that eventually lead to Jacob's death. Ben eventually aligned himself with a group of crash survivors and associates of Jacob, helping them defeat Jacob's rival and save the island. Ben remained on the island to assist its new protector, Hugo "Hurley" Reyes. He is last seen peacefully shutting down the remnants of the DHARMA Initiative and persuading a particularly special survivor of the Oceanic 815 crash to return to the island.
Personality: First impressions, under normal conditions, paint Ben as a polite, charming, genteel sort of fellow with a folksy nature about him. However, he's not one for idle chit-chat, and tends to steer the direction of the conversation. He can be sneaky, though he means no harm. This may be hard to remember if you're at the receiving end of his sharp wit, which grows more biting depending on how frazzled he is. Ben is highly intelligent and well-read, which comes through in his arresting manner of speaking. His troubled past has left him with a lot of guilt, but has also made him more honest. Just don't be surprised if he drops a whopper about the things he's done.
Powers and Skills: Ben has no special abilities; however, he is a capable fighter who relies on the element of surprise. His primary weapon was a collapsible baton, though he is familiar and quite lethal with guns.
